What a Week!

1/26/2012

Wow! What a week it has been! This week was chalk full of work, auditions, meetings, callbacks, and rehearsals!

I started my week off with an audition for "The Whole Shebang" at UPAC Theatre. I then had an audition for Splinter Dance Company. I was called back the next evening for UPAC for the role of Kathren and Betty. I was emailed by Splinter Dance Company and offered a role in the company. Rehearsals to learn the repertoire started Wednesday and my first gig with them is in May in Port Angeles. Then I was called back AGAIN for "The Whole Shebang" and tonight I was called and offered the role of Kathren!

I will be having my debut in Seattle theatre in March and I could not be more excited and proud of myself. In 27 days I have driven across the country, uprooted my life, lived among strangers, ventured to auditions, and been cast in a rep dance company and a one-act all in under a month of living in the city. Who knew?

Just goes to show you that if you have the drive and determination to do something, you can make it happen. I know that this is only the beginning and there are likely to be many times in my career that I am without work, but it is so great to be starting on the right foot. (Sorry lefty's!)

Remember to always follow your dreams and never give up on those things that are important to you. If you want to get there, take the positive thinking and put it into action. You are in control of your destiny. God is there, trust in him. :)

Live and love,

A Rosetta Stone Never Gathers Moss

One thing that I have learned in my few weeks of living in Seattle is the overwhelming amount of bilingual families. Working at Great Play has opened my eyes to the great dynamics of families that speak more than one language at home.

This has led me to the idea that I would LOVE to brush up my French and (lack of) Spanish skills. Not that I really have a need or a niche for them here, but wouldn't it be fun?!? Oui! Si! :)

Also, after an audition called for me to do an impromptu French accent, I suddenly realized that I am VERY rusty on my dialects and need Hetzel's helpful CD from class. Or just the clever catchphrases from all the grad's in that class that kept me laughing.

Work snowed out this week. Two audition snowed out. This makes for a BUSY week this coming week. All weekend of playing great at Great Play and more than FIVE auditions filling up the week and meetings with parents and families for possible babysitting jobs. How long have I been in the Northwest? Months? Oh right, 20 days!

Life is settling in and I couldn't be more excited, although I do find that I am missing certain things and people that are 3,000 miles away in "Sweet Home Alabama."

Follow your dreams and don't stop believing. Ever. You have a support system. Always.

Live and Love,

Reagan

Life Plan Check Point #1

1/17/2012

Here I am in Seattle, sitting on the couch watching "Father of the Bride 2" and I got to thinking about the life plan that we were assigned to make and think about in Careers class last year with Seth. I rummaged through some paperwork and I found it!

So here, in a nutshell is what I was planning for myself while in Tuscaloosa, AL in January 2011. The plus (+) means I have tackled or am tackling the task, and the minus (-) means it is not exactly as planned, or it is not yet tackled. Man, I already miss football... (ROLL TIDE)

--One Year:
  • 23 years old (+) -- HAHA!
  • Living and working in Seattle (+)
  • Day job at Dance Studio (-)
  • Bartending as second job at night (-)
  • Regularly auditioning for theatre and films in Seattle (+)
  • Also auditioning in LA and Vancouver (-)
To me, so far so good. And here is a sneak peek at where I would like to be in five years...

--Five Years:
  • 27 years old
  • Planning a wedding or married -- (SCARY!)
  • But NOT "settled down"
  • Still performing and making connections across the country
  • Making more than ends meet
  • Steering more towards auditioning and acting rather than my day job for money
  • Have an agent and auditioning regularly
See you back here for more Life Plan Check-ins in approx. 4 years! :)

Living, working, and auditioning in Seattle is all going well as I start to get the hang of juggling my new life.

Live and love.

Happy New ... Life!

Hey Y'all from SEATTLE!

I finally made it up here to the Northwest and everything is good so far. The drive was long and tedious, but familiar faces as "pit-stops" along the way helped us get through it.

Our trip consisted of 5 days of driving. Day one - Birmingham to Dallas. We stayed with family and I was able to socialize with cousins that I do not see very often and also see some new additions to the growing family! Day two - Dallas to Albuquerque. The only night in a hotel, but we did have some AMAZING mexican food at Little Anita's. Try it out if you are in the area! Day three - Albuquerque to Vegas with a minor detour to the Grand Canyon! I stayed with my ballet teacher from BDT who relocated to the Vegas area a few years ago. And I now have a new, 4-year-old boyfriend, Connor! :) He is the most adorable child I think I have ever met! Day four - Vegas to Folsom to stay with my Uncle's family. No blood relation to me there, but we already call each other family even after such a short visit! Day five - Folsom to Seattle! After 15 hours in the truck, we finally made it to my apartment.

My apartment is finally coming together and I already have a job! I went for an interview at Great Play on Monday and started work on Tuesday! Life is falling into place!

I have a few auditions this weekend for films and then a couple more in the next few weeks. Hopefully I will get a hang of the city soon enough and I will even venture to take the bus instead of driving my car. Heaven knows I don't need to spend the gas money!

Out of the 6 days I have been here it has only rained at ALL on 3 of them and only one was really what I call RAIN. The others were mild drizzle for minutes at a time.

I miss many people already, but I know that I am doing what I love and what is best for me right now. And, just so those people know, I ALWAYS have a place for them to sleep if they ever feel like visiting! :)

Live and Love,

Reagan

I graduated Cum Laude from The University of Alabama with a B.A. in Theatre and a Minor in Psychology in May 2011. Originally from Hoover, AL, I have known I was destined for greatness since I was four years old. I am not a picky eater and I love a good talk. In December 2011, I moved to Seattle to pursue my acting career! And after getting engaged to the man of my dreams, I moved back to Sweet Home Alabama in September 2014.
